Inspiration

Our inspiration was based off real experiences that happened in first year. We struggled to find spacious, study-friendly cafes near campus because sometimes the library and study rooms are a battle ground.

What it does

BeanTogether is a location-based social study app designed to make finding study spots and catching up with friends effortless.

How we built it

We prompted Claude to create a skeleton of our project to use as a springboard. Integrated a Tiger Data database to store users and we want to extend this so that users can write reviews. We built the map with the Google Maps API (with a custom style to hide the default pins), pulled real cafés from Google Places through our Flask backend, used Gemini to add quick tags, and dropped them all onto the map as pins. Created a registration/login page for users to create or log into their account.

Challenges we ran into

Lot's of issues with dependencies/ virtual environment, git

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Building a working project that we would actually use

What we learned

How to build software in a team setting and how to effectively prompt Claude to fix our dependency issues.

What's next for BeanTogether

Implementing a review system and using the data from these reviews to further enhance our filtering.
