Inspiration
I was inspired to work on this app after listening to my aunt's struggle who is a breast cancer survivor. I got to know from her that it's very difficult for women living in 3-tier cities or in rural areas to get right advice and treatment at the right time. Breast Cancer is still considered a taboo in some parts of India which makes it difficult for women to reach out for help or get advice by someone.
What it does
B Care is a mobile app which caters pretty much all needs of someone who has recently been diagnosed with Breast cancer, or someone who is already undergoing treatment or for someone who is curious about it and wants to learn ways to prevent it. B Care has following features :
Information : This gives user info about symptoms, how to self exam and also provides videos which show demo of self examination and other information related to breast cancer.
Question : This has collection of frequently asked questions
Forum : Acts as a platform for users where they can connect with women undergoing treatment, survivors and doctors. They can ask queries, share their experience and also share the merits and demerits of certain treatment and how it affected them.
Medicines : Reminds user to take their medicine on time
Diet : This has collection of meal plans for vegans, vegetarians and non-vegetarians
Journal : This feature is used for keeping track of symptoms daily. This can be shared with the doctor so that he/she can treat the patient in a better and effective manner.
Fundraiser : A place where survivors can donate and those who couldn't afford treatment can raise funds.
Support Group : It connects users to nearby support groups with whom they can meet, interact and share their experiences.
Treatment : Has list of nearby hospitals. User can connect with these hospitals by direct call method.
How I built it
I built it using Flutter which is a cross platform development framework so this app can run on both iOS and Android devices. I also used Google Cloud Platform, Firebase for Maps Api, Authentication and Storage.
Challenges I ran into
Lot of time went into debugging the code and figuring out the best package and api.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
I am happy with the UI and features that I was able to implement successfully.
What I learned
I learned a lot during this process especially about Breast Cancer, how it's affecting millions of women all over the world, what factors are responsible for it and how we can prevent it.
What's next for BCare
I would love to launch it on Playstore someday. So I will keep on working on this project to make it better and add more features like Regional Language Support, Voice enabled input and output and other accessibility options.
