Inspiration
Many Tibetan/Himalayan businesses lack the opportunities to advertise their products to the general public. In an internet-dominant market, these businesses at a severe disadvantage compared to their competitors, as they are shorting themselves of multiple avenues of revenue. Here at Bazaar, we aim to bridge the gap between vendor and customer and bring more traffic to Tibetan/Himalayan businesses.
What it does
Provides an avenue for local Tibetan/Himalayan businesses to get discovered and have more visibility.
How we built it
Using a simple flask application to create our site, structured so that users can see trending/ featured stores, enter in a location and find local businesses in a specific area, and browse through some stores' item catalog.
Challenges we ran into
URL routing was a bit tricky, though we managed fairly well. Web-scraping using the selenium library and dealing with parsing html code was also challenging.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
The features that we were able to implement, and the at-least navigable website that was created.
What we learned
New techstacks, we've never used selenium nor flask before.
What's next for Bazaar
Hopefully implementing fully the location-based search via embedded google maps, and actual deployment of the website.
