Baymax AI - Your personal Mental Healthcare Companion

Baymax is an AI-powered chatbot website, designed to support your emotional wellbeing and happiness

Inspiration

I was of course inspired by the character Baymax from Big Hero 6, who embodies warmth, empathy, and care. As a future mechatronics engineer, I've always dreamed of building my very own Baymax. Additionally, my own meditation practice has made mental wellness a big part of my life, and I've always dreamed of building my own mental health or self improvement app. This hackathon was the perfect opportunity to combine both of these dreams. The purpose of this website is to make Baymax's positivity and adorable personality more accessible to everyone.

Baymax AI Allows Users To...

  • Chat about their emotions and daily struggles
  • Interact with an adorable 3D Baymax!
  • Log thoughts through journal entries
  • Explore their emotional wellness by providing various journaling prompts
  • Rate their mood, stress levels and day on a scale of one to ten - Baymax style!
  • Follow breathing exercises, such as Box Breathing and the Wim Hof method to reduce stress, improve energy and more
  • Revisit past journal entries and review trends in their mood and stress

How I Built It

  • The entire website was built on Bolt
  • OpenRouter API with the Mistral model was used for the AI features
  • 3D Baymax was designed in Spline
  • Figma was used to create the initial designs, which were then imported into Bolt
  • The website is hosted on Railway

Challenges I Faced

This was my first ever Hackathon! It was definitely a bit of a learning curve, but I'm so happy with the final result. I faced a lot of challenges along the way, including...

  • Securing the API key server-side without exposing it to the frontend
  • Fine-tuning the AI responses for emotional tone
  • Learning how to 3D model in Spline
  • Getting the API key to work consistently
  • Fixing the page layout, especially with the 3D spline

Accomplishments and Things I Learned

  • The UI design, especially the 3D Baymax
  • Learning how to set up an API and the chat interface
  • Learning how to deploy a website, from start to finish

What's next for Baymax - Your Personal Mental Health Companion

  • A more interactive 3D Baymax (capable of giving fist bumps, waving, and other clickable interactions)
  • Mobile support
  • A voice feature for Baymax
  • Features such as creating an account and saving users conversations
  • More in-depth breakdowns in mood and stress trends
  • Meditation features

As a future mechatronics engineer, I've always dreamed of building a real Baymax robot. This summer I've been working on developing my own system of neural networks hooked up to robots, such as mechanical arms in order to give them personality and decision making capacities. I hope in future that I can combine some of this technology with my Baymax website.
