Inspiration
PieMake was inspired by the growing need for fast, simple, and accessible video creation tools for content creators, marketers, and everyday users. Many people want to create advertising videos or promotional content, but they often face barriers such as complicated editing software, expensive tools, or required registration before they can even start. PieMake solves this by allowing users to generate videos immediately using either uploaded images or text prompts.
What it does
PieMake Image to Video is a video generation web application that allows users to create videos in two main ways: Image to Video and Text to Video. Users can upload images and transform them into videos, or they can type a text prompt and generate a video from that idea.
The application supports guest mode, so users can start creating videos without logging in. It also includes authenticated mode, where users can save their generated videos, access project history, and manage saved projects across devices. PieMake also provides plugin selection, video settings, generated video preview, download options, and a My Projects page for saved outputs.
How we built it
We designed PieMake with a simple page structure: a main video generation interface, a result page, an authentication modal or page, and a My Projects page for logged-in users.
The main page includes mode switching between Image to Video and Text to Video. For Image to Video, users can upload images, preview them, and use drag-and-drop upload. For Text to Video, users can enter a prompt with input guidelines. The system also includes video generation plugin options such as Advanced Video Generation, Video Generation Omni/Kling, and Text to Video.
For guest users, project data is stored locally using IndexedDB. This allows temporary storage of uploaded images, prompts, generation settings, video metadata, and timestamps. For authenticated users, project data is stored in the cloud so users can access their work later. When a guest user logs in, the system migrates local guest data into the user account.
Challenges we ran into
One of the main challenges was balancing easy access with project persistence. We wanted users to generate videos immediately without forcing them to create an account, but we also needed a way to protect and save their work. To solve this, we used a guest-first flow with IndexedDB for local storage and authentication only when users want to access My Projects, History, or Cloud Save.
Another challenge was handling different video generation modes and plugin options. Image to Video and Text to Video require different types of input, validation, and generation logic. We also had to consider edge cases such as empty prompts, missing image uploads, unsupported image formats, plugin failures, generation timeouts, and storage quota limits.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud that PieMake provides a smooth and beginner-friendly video generation experience. Users can start creating videos immediately without registration, switch between image-based and text-based generation, preview results, download generated videos, and save projects when they choose to log in.
We are also proud of the guest-to-authenticated migration feature. This allows users to begin as guests and later preserve their work by moving their local project data into a permanent cloud account. This makes the app more flexible and user-centered.
What we learned
While building PieMake, we learned the importance of designing around user flow. A good creative tool should not slow users down with unnecessary steps. We also learned how important data persistence is, especially when users create digital content that they may want to save, download, or access later.
We also learned how to plan for edge cases early, such as failed generation, login errors, unsupported file formats, and local storage limitations. These details help make the application more reliable and professional.
What's next for PieMake
In the future, PieMake can be expanded with more advanced video tools such as batch video generation, video editing features, direct social media sharing, video templates, project versioning, and collaboration features. We also plan to improve the My Projects page with better filtering, sorting, thumbnails, and project management options.
PieMake’s next goal is to become a complete AI-powered video creation platform for creators, marketers, and users who want to turn images and ideas into high-quality videos quickly and easily.
