Inspiration
Bangladesh Agricultural University is one of the best universities in Bangladesh, undoubtedly. But due to scattered resources and lack of connectivity, we students cannot utilise our time and valuable knowledge properly. That's what inspired me to come up with an app which can fulfil all demands at once.
## What it does
- Centralized Academic Equity & Accessibility (Phase 1) The Use: Acts as a single, highly organized repository replacing scattered Google Drive links, messy Facebook messenger groups, and outdated faculty pages.
The Impact: Bridges the information gap between senior and junior students. Ensures that every student—regardless of social circles or department connections—has instant access to verified lecture notes, lab manuals, and past exam papers.
- Student Well-being & Productivity Gamification (Phase 2) The Use: Uses a customizable Pomodoro timer linked to a competitive multi-tier leaderboard (Department, Batch, University) and a real-world reward store.
The Impact: Fights burnout and procrastination by turning studying into a rewarding, motivating game. By partnering with local campus spots (like bookstores, cafes, and print shops), it directly ties digital focus to real-life student perks.
- Streamlined Campus Communication & Administrative Efficiency (Phases 3 & 4) The Use: Provides a centralized announcement feed, a role-gated CR-to-teacher bridge, and ticking deadline countdowns synchronized with weekly routines.
The Impact: Eliminates miscommunication regarding class shifts, sudden tests, and lab deadlines. It reduces the administrative burden on professors and Class Representatives by automating announcements and urgent alerts.
- Cognitive Retention & Active Learning (Phase 5) The Use: Integrates an Ebbinghaus Spaced Repetition review scheduler directly into the student’s daily workflow.
The Impact: Shifts students away from stressful, last-minute cramming toward long-term knowledge retention, measurably improving academic performance and exam outcomes.
- Holistic Campus Life & Residential Management (Phase 6) The Use: Centralizes student organization hubs (IT Club, Badhan, Rover Scouts) and residential hall portals (managing dining menus, meal tokens, and maintenance requests).
The Impact: Digitizes the entire campus ecosystem. It solves daily logistical hassles for residential hall students while giving student clubs a dedicated space for transparent recruitment and event broadcasting.
How we built
itFrontend & UI: Built using Next.js (or Python/Flask) and styled with Tailwind CSS to ensure a clean, responsive, university-grade dashboard experience.AI & Intelligence Layer: Integrated the Google Gemini API (gemini-3.7-flash) to handle backend text processing, automatic document summarization, and semantic search routing.Data Management: Utilized a lightweight state and mock database architecture to handle rapid file indexing and retrieval during the hackathon window.
Challenges we ran into
Structuring Academic Data: Mapping out a clean taxonomy that fits diverse departments—from veterinary medicine to agricultural engineering—took some careful thought to keep the UI from getting cluttered.Prompt Engineering for Summaries: Tuning the Gemini model responses to consistently output concise, uniform bullet points instead of long walls of text required a few iterations on our system instructions.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
First time building a functional app in only 2 hours while facing various technical issues like antigravity asking for submission midway and not working with any other emails or even after reinstallation, Network issues etc.
What we learned
How to effectively leverage LLMs not just as chatbots, but as background utility engines to parse and structure unstructured user-generated text. The importance of clean, minimalist UI design when presenting heavy, multi-category academic data to judges.
What's next for Bau-Connect
User Authentication & Roles: Implement secure login portals separating student access from faculty verification badges.Cloud Storage Integration: Connect real database backends and cloud buckets (like AWS S3 or Firebase) to support actual PDF and video file uploads.Live Deployment: Roll out a live beta version for student societies to test out on campus!
