Inspiration

Prodigy was, without a doubt, one of the most popular math games in elementary and middle school. However, in high school, the game was rarely, if not never, played by students, due to the material cap at 8th grade. In addition, many students suffer from poor math grades. We wanted to bring back Prodigy in a new way that also allowed high school kids to bring back their childhood fun.

What it does

After students learn trigonometry concepts from their teachers, they can play this game to further reinforce concepts like finding the angle measure through the cosine, sine, and tangent of two sides.

How we built it

The main overall game was built using Unity and C#, and we decided to build another supplemental HTML website with extra support videos, in case the students need a refresher.

Challenges we ran into

Some challenges we ran into was our intention of the game; We didn't know if the game would be considered Education or Entertainment. For our HTML site, we also had a little trouble with fonts and backgrounds.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Some accomplishments that we are proud of are that we got titles for our HTML internet tab, a favicon image of our logo.

What we learned

We should spend more time planning and get a solid idea down rather than moving from one idea to another.

What's next for Shibes and Ships: Across the Waves

Add a parental controls app, add more subjects, possibly start closed beta testing in some classes
