Inspiration

Battle Beaver is an immersive AR multiplayer game inspired by 90’s fighting games, except this one, features … utterly adorable beavers. We’re a bunch of young creatives and as much we like to keep our nose to the grindstone, we do need our downtime because that’s actually when we “do nothing” that the spark happens. Our free time, we fill with lots of playtimes, this is why we got so stocked with this brief! Battle Beaver is a two-player AR Snap game inspired by the games of our childhood; Dragon Ball FighterZ, Tekken and Street Fighter. But for this project, we wanted to add our own creative flavour to the concept and allow users to impersonate an animal that is very dear to us; the beaver. We indeed have a little crush for the rodents because they’re makers, they get sh*t done, and come on, aren’t they the cutest?

What it does

The game is set in a Canadian autumn-like forest landscape. Players face each other in a ring and have to give as many punches using their thumbs. Each player can use a shield to protect him/herself and wins or loses points as the battle goes on. We, of course, had a thought for the sore losers and made sure to add a “Restart” button.

How we built it

We decided to use the connective lens technology from Lens Studio to create a fun versus game. Our creative team created all the props and characters on Blender and created custom animations for all the beavers' actions.

Challenges we ran into

Our main challenge was to align all the 3D animations to match the gameplay, creating a robust multiplayer system.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We released our first full multiplayer lens. We are proud of having created AR game who is both accessible and goofy. We also enjoyed making a lens that was only a game where the only focus was to give a fun experience to users.

What we learned

We learned how to set-up a multiplayers lens using Lens Studio plateforme. We had to troubleshoot a few bugs on Lens Studio because it was our first multiplayer lens.

What's next for Battle Beaver

We would like to flesh out the game by adding more a variety of actions, add more visual feedbacks and features.
