One of our group members had an ultrasonic distance sensor lying around and we wanted to make a project that utilized that. We quickly decided upon making an anti-collision alert system that could theoretically alert drivers of a potential collision based on its proximity to objects around them. The main use we found that could be accomplished with this system is to avoid collisions while backing your car into a parking spot or otherwise, as a lot of small accidents happen due to parking mishaps. While anti-collision features already exist on newer models of cars, we though our system could be useful to be put on older cars.

Some troubles we faced while building the system mostly had to do with the ultrasonic sensor that we had. We had to filter out a lot of noise that was generated so that we wouldn't get absurdly false readings. In the end, we think we settled on a solid proof-of-concept prototype that could lead to a system that we could eventually market to consumers.
