Inspiration

I often feel exhausted and frustrated after spending hours trying to fix a bug. So I bought a punching bag in my room to let go of my frustration. But there are times I just want to throw my monitors out and never see that code again. I can imagine things must be worst for people working at highly stressed environments like startups. If only there could be a place you can trash your monitors anytime anywhere without consequences...

What it does

This a rage room in virtual reality that gives you a baseball bat, and lot of monitors. In this app, everything is interactable. You can smash the monitors, the PC, the keyboard, the coffee cups and so much more. Even the windows and walls are destructible.

How we built it

This is made independently by me with Unity's free 3D Snaps Prototype assets, free skyboxes, the Oculus Plugin and the BNG Interaction Framework. This app is made in Unity with Oculus Quest 2. It can run on a windows machine AND standalone in an Oculus Quest 2 headset without the need of a PC.

Challenges we ran into

lol, I accidentally deleted my asset library halfway through the hackathon. Luckily I received everything from the recycling bin.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

It works! Not only on PC but also standalone on the Quest!!!

What we learned

A well-scoped project is very important for hackathons. In my previous hackathons, my team and I always over-scope and end up staying up late or not finishing all we wanted to do. This time I pick a very small scope, I ended finished the majority of the content on Saturday morning and have an entire afternoon to play with procedural generation.

What's next for Bat and Monitors

  • Add rooms (living rooms, boss's office, school library, etc....)
  • Add more interactive objects (breakable tables, tv, ac, guitar etc)
  • More weapons (axe!)
