Inspiration

Our immediate inspiration was all the current social media apps that we use today. We adapted their goals and aims in an artistic aspect and to help creators to connect with each other on a platform dedicated to them. In our analysis of different apps, we found that the dating app Tinder had the framework that we could transform into a more professional and collaborative version that would allow for creators to find other like-minded creators to follow and ideate with.

What it does

Basket has two main aspects. The first aspect allows creators to swipe on other creators with similar interests or passions and opens up an avenue for conversation and potential collaborations. The second aspect is to post your own portfolio, as well as explore and interact with others. One significant detail we included in Basket was the absence of followers and likes that most other platforms have. This is so that creators can focus on their art and do it for themselves–instead of catering for an audience, likes, or views. We wanted to reclaim art in its organic meaning without followers impeding the creative process.

Challenges we ran into

Some challenges we had while making this were the time constraints that our team had due to a flight going back to campus as well as no prior experience using Figma -- there was a learning curve for the both of us. We both had several ideas on how to tackle this prompt, so honing down on one specific idea was probably the most time-consuming aspect of this project, but once we figured out our goals and objectives creating the product itself was smooth and fun.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud of being able to accomplish so much in such a little amount of time for our first designathon! Also the Tinder-esque swiping system in our prototype was a fun challenge that pushed us.

What we learned

We learnt a lot about the thought process and planning that goes into making a case study and UI design! After mocking up moodboards, style guides, user personas, and more, we feel more connected with the design and innovation required for UX/UI challenges. Not only did the workshops help us better our understanding of the design community, but they also were imperative to our creation of this product.
