Inspiration
We wanted a workout app that does exactly what matters — no fluff, distractions, or complexity. Just track your sets, stay consistent, and progress over time. Most fitness apps are too complicated, social, or gamified. BasicSets is our answer to that: a minimalist, beginner-friendly training companion for people who care about getting stronger and healthier, not getting likes.
What it does
BasicSets lets users log their strength training sessions with precision and ease. You can: -Plan and record your workouts (exercises, sets, reps, weights) -Monitor your progress over time -Add custom exercises Stay focused with a clean and distraction-free interface
It's a solo-first training app designed to help you stay consistent with your routine and push toward long-term strength goals.
How we built it
BasicSets has been made by Bolt.new AI through prompts! Bolt built the app using React Native for cross-platform support (iOS and Android). The UI is inspired by minimal design systems and optimized for speed and usability. The backend database was handled with Supabase integrated directly with Bolt. Also, the deployment was made with Netlify.
Challenges we ran into
Learning how to work efficiently with Bolt and crafting the right prompts to avoid regressions Guiding Bolt's output to align with the project's vision and validating its design and logic decisions Maintaining a minimalist interface without sacrificing usability or flexibility Polishing the final details — the most time-consuming part — to ensure consistency in both the UI and the overall user experience
Accomplishments that we're proud of
A clean, friendly UI that appeals to focused lifters and beginners alike Fast and intuitive workout logging experience No specific personal information, no spam — just a reliable personal training tool A clear brand identity with a strong, minimal logo
What we learned
Bolt can be used easily to make apps in less time Minimal doesn't mean featureless — it means thoughtful Designing for consistency (both in the app and in training) is a powerful differentiator Listening to real users helped us avoid building things nobody needed
What's next for BasicSets
Add graphs and visual feedback for progress tracking Enable structured goal-setting (volume, strength targets, consistency streaks) Optional cloud sync/export for backup and multi-device support Possibly open source the core tracker for transparency and contribution Stay true to our principle: simple, focused, and effective strength training
