Inspiration
Most online tipping tools are centralized, take fees, or limit who can participate. We wanted something simple, open, and creator-friendly. That inspired us to build a minimal on-chain version of “buy me a coffee” on Base, where anyone can support a creator directly with no intermediaries and no restrictions.
What We Built
BaseTip is a lightweight tipping dapp that lets supporters send ETH along with a message. Creators can withdraw everything instantly, and the entire flow is permissionless and on-chain. The goal was to make appreciation simple, fast, and fully decentralized.
How we built it
We wrote a Solidity smart contract, deployed it on Base, and built a Next.js frontend using wagmi and viem for wallet interactions. We focused on creating a clean path from connect wallet → send tip → withdraw, keeping the contract small and secure.
Challenges we ran into
We faced repeated issues with testnet funding, gas estimation errors, package conflicts, and build failures. Despite these challenges, we delivered a working MVP with a smooth on-chain tipping experience.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Just submitting it this time even though it's incomplete but not giving up.
What we learned
We learned how to debug RPC failures, handle faucet limitations, work with updated wagmi tooling, and resolve chain import conflicts. We also saw how even a small application can demonstrate the power of open, decentralized payments.
What's next for BaseTip – Simple Creator Tipping on Base
We aim to add creator pages, NFT badges, and better UI around messages. We’ll also explore stablecoin support and contract optimizations. Our broader vision is to turn BaseTip into a simple, permissionless tooling layer for creators on Base.
