Inspiration

One of us applied to 200+ jobs and heard nothing. Another sat on a hiring panel and watched good candidates get rejected because CVs don't show real skills. At career fairs, students wander around overwhelmed while companies collect stacks of paper they'll never properly read. During IC Hack, we interviewed every sponsor: "What do you actually want in candidates?" Turns out everyone's frustrated with the same broken system.

What it does

Connect your GitHub, upload a CV, connect your LinkedIn or write a personal statement and tell us what you're looking for. In under 30 seconds, you get a match percentage against 10+ companies based on actual technical fit, not keyboard spam. Your CV isn't stored. We process it and throw it away.

How we built it

Two AI agents: one builds a unified portfolio from your GitHub, CV, LinkedIn and statement. The other evaluates it against our company database. Frontend is Next.js, Matching is GPT-4. We deep scraped 10+ companies and surveyed sponsors directly for tech stacks, cultures and requirements. Ultimately, we wanted to know "What makes the perfect candidate for your company?".

Challenges we ran into

Scraping 10+ companies with completely different websites structures. Making semantic matching fast enough to feel instant. Convincing sponsor repts to tell us what they actually look for (easier than expected as they had their own opinions).

Accomplishments that we're proud of

More than 10 companies indexed. Matched in under 30 seconds. Zero data stored. We didn't guess what companies want, we surveyed them directly.

What we learned

Both sides, applicants and employers, dislike the current system. Talking to users before building saves time. Semantic matching actually works way better than keywords for technical roles.

What's next for Basely

We are going to create portfolio hosting that would host student github projects in demo versions. We would host this for free and match with companies. We also want to replace HackerRank with real world simulated tasks taking over the entire world!
