Inspiration

We wanted to help developers easily identify modern web features, their browser support, and potential pitfalls without leaving VS Code.

What it does

Highlights non-baseline features, shows browser support on hover, suggests polyfills, scans projects, generates Baseline Reports, and integrates with ESLint/CI.

How we built it

Built as a VS Code extension using TypeScript, leveraging browser support data APIs, Markdown/HTML reporting, and ESLint plugin scaffolding for CI integration.

Challenges we ran into

Mapping complex modern web features accurately, handling inconsistent browser support data, and ensuring performant scanning on large projects.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Seamless hover support for feature tokens, comprehensive project scanning, automated Baseline Reports, and ESLint integration to enforce baseline standards.

What we learned

Understanding browser compatibility nuances, creating effective developer tooling UX, and integrating static analysis with CI workflows.

What's next for Baseline-Buddy

Adding real-time suggestions for polyfills, expanding feature coverage, improving project scan performance, and integrating more CI/CD tools.
