Inspiration
Going camping is one of our team's favorite activities. It's the best way to destress and enjoy the outdoors. Unfortunately, planning those campouts is usually the opposite of destressing. Where to go? What to bring? What's the weather like? There are so many questions, what if they could all be answered in one spot?
What it does
Our webapp allows the user to select a state and see the national campgrounds in that state along with a three day forecast. From there the user can select a state, which will bring up more detailed information including a full weather report, description, local activities, and custom packing list recommendations based on the weather to assist in planning
How I built it
We used Azure to host our webapp built in flask that gathers data from the National Park Service, Weather.gov, and Google Maps API's to display relevant information
Challenges I ran into
We struggled with sorting through information from the APIs, UI/UX Elements, and CI/CD with git.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
We're proud to have a fully functioning webapp that can be built upon and fullfills our original goals, but we're more proud of what we learned.
What I learned
This was a hackathon of many firsts for me. First webapp, first time using flask, first time using git, first time using Azure, and first time implementing an API. I'm proud to say that I not only used these things, but I learned them for use in the future.
What's next for basecamp
There are so many features we wish we had time for but didn't. For the future we plan to use Azure services to store user credentials so that they can save their own campout plans, add support for park alerts, show parking, and much more.
A word from our team to the sponors
Thank you so much for sponsoring this event, and us, as well as providing us with the resources to learn and explore this weekend.
A word from our team to the organizers and volunteers
Thank you so much for dedicating your time and effort to this hackathon. It was a wonderful experience for our team because of you!
