The buddy system is a tried-and-true way to stay safe during a night of fun. But what if you and your buddy need to part ways? Maybe you agreed to "touch base" with each other throughout the night -- but what if you forget to check in? Does your buddy come check on you, or are you probably doing ok?
This situation, and others of a similar ilk, was the motivation for Base, an easy way for friends to keep track of each other. At the beginning of a night, you can agree to receive a notification every--say, half an hour--that will give you the option to say "I'm fine" or "Come find me!" We also imagined the app could be used by parents with their children at the mall or at a theme park.
During this Hackathon, we managed to implement the screen where the user initializes a Base, as well as the time-delayed "Touch Base" screen. In the process, we became far more familiar with the Android SDK, as well as development of mobile apps in general.
