Inspiration
The inspiration for creating this app came from seeing that many young people, or what we commonly call Gen Z or Gen Alpha, rarely use their regional languages, and this could lead to the extinction of many regional languages due to the decreasing number of speakers. We therefore created a regional language learning app with a fun and enjoyable game-like presentation so that many people want to learn their regional languages, and this can help teenagers become fluent in regional languages.
What it does
Its function is to prevent regional languages from becoming extinct and to introduce regions in Indonesia to those who don't know or are laypeople.
How we built it
First, we create the UI/UX Design design, then continue with the frontend when the design is finished, then continue with the backend.
Challenges we ran into
The challenges we faced were numerous. First, we struggled to find APIs for regional languages, as we couldn't find any that still worked. There was a GitHub version, but it couldn't be accessed. Second, we struggled to connect AI models to our applications, and sometimes the AI's limitations were what made it difficult. When we approached the limits, it would slow down and even cause errors.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud to have completed this app in under 30 hours, despite the occasional bugs and errors. We're also proud to have created a learning app about regional languages, thereby preserving Indonesia's regional languages.
What we learned
We learned a lot, from incorporating AI models into our applications to addressing some of the bugs.
What's next for Basa Krama
What we will upgrade or continue is the feature of playing together with friends, the concept is like the Kahoot game and adding various regional languages in Indonesia, which number approximately 700 regional languages.
