Inspiration

One of our teammates took a smart serve certificate course, which would certify him to sell alcohol in Ontario. He was taught how to monitor customer's alcohol consumption and estimate BAC levels based on their approximate age, weight, and gender. We decided to create an app to help bartenders responsibly serve, and protect customers from overdrinking.

What it does

The app should have easy to use functions to add and delete profiles, and an individual profile viewing page with info and editing features including a drink count and diagram.

How we built it

We wanted to build the app with kotlin on android studio, but it remained unfinished, so we submitted our app mockup built with figma.

Challenges we ran into

The main challenge we encountered was the fact that all of us were first-time hackers, and all had differing experiences in programming. We had a student learning data science, a new iOS developer, and me who was a high school student. So, we decided on a middle ground in that we would all learn kotlin to develop an android app.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Even though we were unable to finish the app, we're proud that we collaborated to learn kotlin and app development together. We may not have a working app, but we all enjoyed the invaluable learning experience from this hackathon.

What we learned

Through these 36 hours, we got a good look on how to create apps for android as well as the UI design that goes into them.

What's next for Bars

We plan on continuing our learning journey by finishing up the app in the coming weeks, and possibly publishing it.
