Barkley, the Butler

Inspiration

College life has become a little stale without the on-campus experience. The worst part about this is losing the closeness we feel with our friends. With Barkley, we aim to bridge the gap and increase the convenience of living an amazing fun life with your best friends.

What it does

Features

DM Style Tags .listen @ to listen to a user. When they enter a ., you get a ping.

.ghost @ to prevent the user from tagging you using .

. - To ghost tag your listeners.

Why this feature? Well, this delivers the experience of a DM, but on a server - Badge Icons without the pain of tagging.

Server Organisation

What lengths one wouldn't go to serve her laziness (cc @varshitakolipaka, the ogre!)

People kinda just end up sending everything in #general, it's convenient. What if Barkley can organize and categorize your messages/links/photos/resources/memes/spammmmmmmmmmm in their respective channels and you can just use a keyword and SWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOF it goes to the right channel.

.add Type this in a channel of your choice, and now the bot labels your channel using this keyword.

Type this in any channel, and this message is instead sent to the correct channel (The bot imitates you using a webhook. It's as if you were responsible enough to send the message in the right channel in the first place) (cc @varshitakolipaka, the ogre!)

Reply to a message with this, and a copy of the original message, including attachments is sent to the correct channel

- Replying with this to a message will send the original message to the right channel, and delete it from the current channel.

Server Disguise

Oh, nononono, mom's here. (Or maybe your snooping neighbour, meh.)

This is the discord version of stashing away stuff in a closet.

How we built it

We used the Discord.py framework to create the Discord Bot.

Challenges we ran into

We were trying to look for alternative APIs to be used for some of the ambitious features that we had in mind. The online APIs were quite expensive, so we backed out.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We don't even care about how everyone's gonna take this bot, we love it. THIS IS FREAKING AWESOME AND WE ARE GOING TO USE IT EVERY SINGLE DAY!

What's next for Barkley, the Butler

FEATURES, MORE FEATURES, EVEN MORE FEATURES!!! After spending a little time on this bot, our minds are filled with ideas! Features such as topic-classifier, search101, reminders, study-buddy, are just things that are on top of my mind right now. This bot is going to change the way people interact on Discord.
