Barebranded: A Minimal Logo & Brand Guideline Tool for Founders
🧠 Inspiration
As product builders and startup founders, we kept running into the same problem: early-stage teams often don’t have the time, budget, or design skills to craft a professional-looking brand identity. Most logo tools out there are either bloated, generic, or simply overwhelming. We wanted to create something radically simple - a tool that could take you from idea to brand presence in under 10 minutes.
That’s how Barebranded came to life: a clean, type-based logo and brand guideline generator built for speed, clarity, and usefulness. It’s especially made for small business owners and indie hackers who just need something good-looking to launch with — whether it’s for a website, pitch deck, or social media.
As a prototyper and vibe coder, I often publish fast MVPs or micro-startups just to get early feedback. And almost every time, I’d hit a wall at the same point: “I need a logo.” Something quick, modern, and not too try-hard. Most modern brands today use type-based logos - often literally just a smart font and color. That’s when I realized: why not build a tool that does exactly that, and nothing more?
Most free logo generators either charge for downloads or serve up recycled icon-based logos that don’t feel fresh. Barebranded is our alternative: no fluff, no icons, no distractions. Just type, color, and clarity.
✨ What it does
Barebranded helps you generate a minimalist type-based logo and matching brand guideline kit in five quick steps:
- Enter your brand name.
- Choose a typography category (Serif, Sans Serif, or Calligraphy).
- Select specific subtypes and adjust font weight/size.
- Pick your favorite font preview (powered by Google Fonts).
- Choose a color palette — and voilà! Your brand guideline is auto-generated with a downloadable logo, font specs, and color values.
🛠 How we built it
We built Barebranded as a web app using:
- React.js for the frontend flow and state management.
- Google Fonts API to pull live fonts and render custom previews.
- TailwindCSS for minimal, scalable styling.
- HTML2Canvas for downloads
- Bolt for everything else :)
The UI is mobile-friendly, intentionally clean, and optimized for short attention spans — because we know how fast early-stage founders need to move.
🧗 Challenges we ran into
- Font rendering complexity: Making real-time previews dynamic (with weight and size changes) while staying performant was a tricky balance.
- Keeping the UI minimal but informative: Stripping the interface to its bare essentials without confusing the user was a constant design challenge.
- Generating brand guidelines: Creating a PDF export that embedded Google Fonts into a PDF export continuously ran into errors. The system was likely not able to adequately convert that for jsPDF. Ultimately it was dropped due to the time limit
- Exports: Generally, exports using HTML2Canvas often results in distorted downloads with really small text and a lot of white space. I configured this by using AI chatbots to preconfigure exactly the grid, padding, etc to make the exports presentable.
🏆 Accomplishments that we're proud of
- A complete logo, color palette, and basic rules in under 20 minutes.
- A polished, distraction-free UX that non-designers can use intuitively.
- Making Google Fonts feel curated and branded, not just technical.
📚 What we learned
- Simplicity is hard but rewarding. Every feature we cut brought us closer to the user’s real needs.
- Good branding doesn’t have to be complex; it just needs to feel intentional.
- Early founders love tools that respect their time.
🔮 What's next for Barebranded
We’re just getting started. Here’s what’s coming next:
- Social media kit generation (profile pics, banners, etc.)
- Premium logos and font bundles
- Project save/login support for ongoing edits
- AI-assisted tone matching to help users choose fonts and palettes that reflect their brand’s vibe
- AI-assisted brand name generation help founders describe their vision as the tool gives brand ideas
- Domain Mapping automatically search domains at the end of the journey to give users ideas on which domains to purchase
- AI-powered PDF Brand Guidelines A fully functional PDF export with more insights into how the brand should be used. AI is used to determine the brand's personality through the name and colors, and then write up the brand guidelines.
- & so much more As we write this down, ideas keep coming up :D
Barebranded aims to be your first branding tool — the one you use before you even launch. And we’re excited to keep building for the founders who move fast.
