Inspiration
There’s a bond between a man and his barber that goes beyond haircuts. It’s a relationship built on trust, familiarity, and consistency. My barber wasn’t just someone who knew how to fade and line me up perfectly. He was part of my routine, part of my story. So when his shop suddenly shut down and he had to relocate, it felt like I lost more than just a service; I lost a connection. He had no way of telling his loyal clients where he had gone, and we had no way of finding him. That sense of disruption made me realize how fragile the connection between barbers and their clients can be in moments of change and how technology could strengthen that bond. That’s what inspired BarberConnect: a mobile-first platform designed to ensure that no matter where life takes a barber or a client, their relationship doesn’t get lost in the shuffle. It’s about keeping those trusted connections alive.
What it does
BarberConnect is a mobile-first booking platform that connects clients directly with their favorite barbers. Clients can discover local barbers, favorite them for quick booking, and schedule appointments in a few taps. Barbers can efficiently manage bookings, update their schedules, notify clients about location changes, and build a loyal customer base—all from one streamlined dashboard.
How we built it
BarberConnect was built using Bolt.new as the primary development platform, enabling rapid prototyping and deployment. We used Angular for a robust and dynamic frontend experience, and Firebase as our backend for authentication, real-time database, and cloud functions. Bolt.new made it easy to integrate these technologies, manage our UI components, and quickly iterate on new features—all while keeping the entire workflow efficient and mobile-friendly.
Challenges we ran into
Designing a user experience that works seamlessly for both clients and barbers on mobile devices.
Ensuring real-time updates for bookings and notifications without overwhelming the user.
Integrating third-party services (like payments and notifications) with Bolt.new while maintaining a smooth workflow.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Successfully created a fully functional MVP in a short time frame using Bolt.new.
Developed a clean, intuitive interface that’s easy for both barbers and clients to use.
Integrated a notification system that ensures clients never lose track of their favorite barber again.
What we learned
The power of building with Bolt.new for rapid, iterative development.
How critical it is to maintain connections between small business owners and their clients, especially in service industries.
Real-world feedback is invaluable talking to both barbers and clients shaped our feature set and priorities.
What's next for BarberConnect
Expanding features to include in-app payments, ratings, and reviews.
Building community features where barbers can share tips or promote special offers.
Launching a targeted campaign to onboard more barbers in local communities.
Exploring integrations with RevenueCat for premium features and subscriptions.
