Inspiration
The project reimagines Barbara Furtuna not just as a meditation on exile, loss, and the fragility of harmony. Drawing from Corsican tradition, the film envisions a mythic Corsica island that mirrors the emotional arc of the chant: joy, devastation, and dissolution. The inspiration lies in blending poetic emotion, mythic storytelling, and visual abstraction to amplify the song’s essence.
What it does
The film is a visual meditation through a golden era of mythic paradise to the dissolution in the void of the unconsciousness. It evokes through aesthetic, emotion, philosophy, anthropology, and psychology simultaneously: a visual lament for a lost homeland.
How we built it
We used Hailuo AI, Kling AI and Dreamina AI to craft a unique aesthetic that merges: Impressionist landscapes (inspired by Monet) for the paradise phase. Abstract, surreal forms (inspired by Zao Wou-Ki & Cocteau) for the dissolution phase. Mythic, sculptural composition to structure each phase as a living narrative. The montage is synchronized to a neo-classical reorchestration of Barbara Furtuna, ensuring each visual beat mirrors the musical phrasing and emotional intensity.
Challenges we ran into
Expanding a traditional chant into a narrative world without adding dialogue or conventional storytelling but without loosing the meaning of the text. Balancing emotional impact with visual abstraction, especially for the void phase. Maintaining coherence across three distinct visual and emotional phases while preserving the essence of the original lament in a vast hétéroclite complex world.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Created a fully realized mythic world from a single Corsican chant. Successfully blended impressionist, surreal, and mythic aesthetics into a coherent visual journey. Captured the emotional resonance of exile, loss, and spectral melancholy, while retaining the musical integrity of the source.
What we learned
Minimal traditional texts can inspire deep, multi-layered visual narratives. Emotion-driven world-building can coexist with abstract visual experimentation.
What's next for Barbara furtuna
The film is part of the Corsican Anthology series and later should be featured in live performance events, combining music, visuals, and spatial storytelling to immerse audiences in the mythic and emotional universe of a trans-dimensional Corsica.
