Inspiration

(beginner)

We were inspired to create this project because parents and schools are not teaching students what it means to use money responsibly. Instead of focusing on how to earn money ethically and use it in the right places, schools are focused on delivering education that grew outdated years ago. But no worries. Now that Bankology is here, we can fix the growing lack of financial knowledge in the next generation. With our student designed introductory courses to extremely important topics like: Finance in the Real World, Investing and the Stock Market, Banking, and also Entrepreneurship, we can give students the proper financial education they deserve.

What it does

Bankology is a student created and student -oriented website that teaches children the importance of money and using money the right way. Having the skills to tackle financial problems is becoming increasingly difficult for children resulting in an increase in higher average debt for people under the age of 30. What's the problem? It's quite simple. Parents and schools are not teaching students what it means to use money responsibly. Instead of focusing on something that we will undoubtedly be using throughout our lives, schools are focusing on outdated curriculum that doesn’t really teach finance. But no worries. Now that Bankology is here, we can fix the growing lack of financial knowledge in the next generation. With our student designed introductory courses to extremely important topics like: Finance in the Real World, Investing and the Stock Market, spending wisely we can give students the proper financial education they deserve.

How I built it

We built the project with repl.it and jsonbox for the database. We used nodejs, and web development.

Challenges we ran into

Working together remotely was honestly more difficult than we anticipated but we worked through it.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

We're all proud of finishing the project on time. Most of our group being first-timers we were working throughout trying to understand why this piece of code wasn't working or why that piece of code was working that way. Honestly we are just proud of participating.

What I learned

We learned how to work with teammates. We learned how to make a team out of complete strangers. We did learn code too(see we did something) such as some tricks with HTML.

SokkaNeverDies1: I learned the basics of html and css, photoshop, teamwork skills, how to communicate online.

Stephanie (randomperson2342): I learned node.js and became more familiar with jQuery. I also developed my teamwork and communication skills.

Hackermon: I learned a little bit of jquery while working on this project but I also learned a lot about stocks and finances. I learned to work with other people and make friends.

HarshKaria: This was my first time actually using HTML and working with it. It was awesome.

What's next for Bankology

After the hackathon, we plan to add an actual game type simulator with Bankology, something along the lines of investopedia and the Stock Market Game.
