"Bani : The curious Wanderer"

Inspiration

The inspiration for Bani: The Curious Wanderer struck me during a moment of reflection while watching a motivational YouTube video. In the video, a young child innocently asked his father, "Why is the grass green?" Instead of engaging with the child's curiosity, the father brushed off the question with a dismissive reply: "Because it is not blue; that's just how it is." This brief exchange highlighted a common scenario where the natural inquisitiveness of children is often stifled by the hurried pace of daily life. Witnessing this moment made me realize the profound impact such dismissals can have on a child's cognitive and emotional development. It inspired me to create an app that nurtures and celebrates children's curiosity, transforming these everyday questions into meaningful learning opportunities and fostering a supportive environment for their mental and cognitive growth. The inspiration for the name of the application came as I was thinking to incorporate something more meaningful and creative so that it could get stuck in the user's mind. Bani word does the justice to both the characters I was searching for in the name of this app. Bani word which sounds similar to bunny (our mascot for the app) also means goddess of knowledge, Goddess Saraswati.

What it does

Bani: The Curious Wanderer will be an innovative app designed to nurture and support children's natural curiosity. Each day, the app presents simple yet intriguing questions, such as "Why is the grass green?" or "Why does the sky change color?" and provides comprehensive, age-appropriate explanations. These explanations are crafted to be explored together by parents and children, fostering meaningful conversations and learning experiences. By transforming everyday questions into engaging educational moments, the app enhances cognitive development, boosts emotional well-being, and strengthens the parent-child relationship, ultimately promoting a lifelong love of learning and exploration.

How we built it

We mapped out the user journey, focusing on how parents and children would interact with the app daily. This involved brainstorming and sketching initial wireframes to visualize the app's structure and flow. Using Figma, a powerful design tool, we translated our wireframes into a detailed, interactive prototype. We designed each screen with a user-friendly interface that presents daily questions, provides explanations, and encourages parent-child interaction. Key features like question prompts, detailed explanations, and interactive elements were carefully designed to ensure an engaging and educational experience.

Challenges we ran into

Most challenging part of making of this project was to ensure the app is both informative and enjoyable to maintain children's interest and motivation as most children loose interest easily from any app, even more by an educational app.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We shared the prototype with potential users, including parents and educators, to gather feedback. This input was invaluable in refining the design and functionality to better meet the needs of our target audience.

What we learned

Throughout the development of the Figma prototype for Bani, our team gained several valuable insights:

The Importance of Curiosity:

We deepened our understanding of how critical nurturing curiosity is for a child's cognitive and emotional development. This reinforced our commitment to creating an app that would effectively support and enhance children's natural inquisitiveness.

Challenges of Scalability:

We recognized the potential challenges in scaling the app from a prototype to a fully developed product.

What's next for Bani

We are looking forward to create Bani and make a huge impact on the upcoming generation.
