Inspiration
We were inspired specifically by the cashback feature. We realized that often times, cashback deals are often overlooked or not thought of as often. We wanted to create a feature on our app that will show you specific places where cashback can be earned. This would work as thought, why would someone go to the gas station next door when across the street there was a gas station with a cashback opportunity?
What it does
Our App has reimagined banking. Our home screen will allow you to view your account and transactions as well as apply for a new card. If we go to our main feature, which is cash back. You will get a popup asking for location services permissions. Then once accepted, you are able to see surrounding locations where cashback can be earned. Once the pin around you is clicked, you can see what it is and how much cashback will be received. Our last page which is our card page will optimize your credit. It will show you your credit score as well as a rating based on that credit score, and buttons beneath it that will show you How-To Improve your score and can re-evaluate your score. Lastly, we have a total spending chart that shows your spending in a variety of categories and how it adds up to the total.
How we built it
We built it using the VS Code as our environment. We used React Native as our framework and HTML/CSS and Javascript as the language. We also used Expo to be able to see and interact with our app.
Challenges we ran into
We ran into a lot of challenges with the formatting of the app. Since it was our first time, a lot of features we wanted to implement were not possible given our skill set and the time given.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are very proud of the maps which take your real-time location. Were also proud of the entire app, we have never coded anything like this before and this was a great challenge we were able to overcome.
What we learned
We learned a lot during this time. Especially about app development as this was the first time app developping for a majority of the team. We also learned a lot about being on a team like how to communicate with each other when we were having issues on our respective portions.
What's next for Bandit Banking
Next for bandit banking, there are some features we'd still like to implement. We would have loved to have our app recommend credit cards from Capital One and Capital One partners that are best suited for our users. In other words, this would get data from the user's spending and recommend a card that would work for them. For instance, if the user spends over $150 a month for the past three months on clothing, the Kohl's card which happens to be under capital one would be recommended.
