Inspiration

As someone who struggles with focusing on tasks that I need to do, I have always desired a way to make sure I would not start scrolling through social media websites or other distractions.

What it does

It takes in user input in the form of a list of URLs and uses that data to block any websites in the list. If the user goes to a website listed, they are unable to do so. The app also comes with a stopwatch that tracks the amount of time that the user has spent on task.

How we built it

I built this app in the standard combination of HTML, CSS, and javascript. In order to function as a Chrome extension, I also had to include a special JSON file which allows Chrome to detect if the websites the user access is blocked.

Challenges we ran into

As someone new to the structure of coding for Chrome extensions, I had to go through extensive research to fully understand how the system works.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I built the entire app by myself, without any assistance from AI. Also, as someone new to web design, I believe my skills have greatly increased from this experience.

What we learned

Again, as someone new to web design, I believe my web design skills have improved significantly.

What's next for Banana Focus

I am planning to develop more features for this app, including pomodoro timers, standard timers, and possibly even a reward system that gives cosmetic features in exchange of time spent on task.
