Inspiration

Bamboo was inspired by Forest App and Stack Tower. Taking the core elements from these apps lead to the creation of Bamboo. Our team wanted to help people stay motivated in doing their daily tasks. With the current world climate, it can be hard to keep ourselves accountable and stay on track. Bamboo aims to address this.

What it does

Bamboo gamifies productivity by allowing user to nurture and grow their own bamboo. Users add tasks and for each task they complete, their bamboo will grow in height. A friend can also be synced to compete with. Users can send wellbeing challenges to their friends in exchange for some bamboo.

How we built it

We used the React framework with Javascript and CSS. Authentication was handled with auth0, hosting was done through netlify, and database handled with easybase.

Challenges we ran into

It was initially very difficult to sync two users and update live with a working backend database. To implement the two user function, users had to be able to send data and have live feedback. We eventually got past this by using the easybase for the back end development.
