Inspiration
Mouse Trap, mini golf, VRTK Example scenes
What it does
I challenges the player to complete the ball course through trial and error and problem solving.
How I built it
I was trying lots of VRTK example scenes and I found myself enjoying picking up objects and carefully placing them on top of each other. This motivated me to create a game that takes advantage of virtual reality to create an intriguing experience. I had to dig deeper into the technical implementations that this game would need and built my first metric scene. Once that was solid, I moved on building my first level and started to push and pull my level.
Challenges I ran into
Acknowledging the pros and cons of virtual reality game was new so this was clearly out of my comfort zone. Tutorial was not intuitive enough. I was fortunate enough to showcase this to the crowd in Spring and the tutorial part confused some people.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
I'm proud that I established a solid work flow in this project and that it can be used as a standard template for my future projects.
What I learned
I learnt that tutorials need to stay visual. Player want to be guided to the objective instead of being told what to do. Visual cues or auditory signs are much more convincing to the player. From now on, my tutorials must convince the player rather than getting the information across. Else, people would likely to ignore them despite their importance.
What's next for ball factory
For now, I seized in developing the project since it was a school project for a VR class. I learnt so much from technical and design skills from this class and I can't wait to share and develop this in the upcoming Hackathon!
