Inspiration
Taking a amateur videos without assistance inspired us to create Balance.
What it does
Balance is a small robot that holds a phone or other videographic recording device. The robot will move back and forth to keep the user in the frame of the video using an ultrasonic sensor to determine the distance between the subject and the robot and adjusts accordingly
How we built it
We used a large box to make a smaller box with a hood for the electronics to fit inside and a small holder for a recording device. We programmed the sensor and servos in C++/C programming variant in Arduino IDE .
Challenges we ran into
We were not given wheels and had to fashion some out of layered cardboard stuck together with hot glue. We also had to redesign the box twice due to the shape not accommodating to the size of its contents and the fact that we were visually displeased by out earlier model
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We were able to write a code and create a functioning robot without any planning before the hackathon.
What we learned
We enhanced our definitions of teamwork and comradery and bettered our understanding of how to adapt to circumstances that result in ways differently than planned
What's next for Balance
If we were to either be given more time or continued to work on Balance after the hackathon, side-to-side movement would be the next step for the tracking system Balances already possesses.
