Inspiration
The issue to fix provided by the organizers was tricky to begin with since the main problem is that the small clinics cant affort big expensive equipment, so i thought, why not, improve the comunication scheme between a bigger lab with equipment and a small clinic, since a lab cant work without a medic to ask for the exams and a medic cant heal their patients without proper diagnosis.
What it does
its a "cloud" based system where a clinic/lab can submit a request for samples pick up, the system also makes a record about every request that its made and based on the requests on a given moment, the system generates the shortest route for the pick up service to take. and since the lab already digitalize the results from the machine, those can be uploaded to the system where they can be accesed by the clinic who requested them.
How I built it
i started thinking about the assignment delibery platforms that i use in school and thought, why not do something like that, if i can get an assignment request, a lab can get a request for a test, and give back the results, so i began creating the base of the system that was the log in for the clinics and labortatories, and the database to keep it all working,after that i thought that a big lab wouldnt want to do the runs to get the samples one by one so creating a route would improve and increase their profit.
Challenges I ran into
At first i was doing it on php alone until i thought about the route thing since the Google Maps API for javascript isnt free i decided to use another free service that allowed me to do use some of the same functionalities I need from Google Maps; the mapquest javascript API allowed to do much of the same functionality that Google Maps offered but without the recurrent fear of running out of requests to keep testing my app.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
Creating this proyect in the limited amount to time and how far it has gone its amazing to me, there are some rough edges but im proud of what i did
What I learned
Theres more to do with an old idea that to try to create something new out of the blue, at first i was thinking about a platform to rent and sell medical equipment from big hospitals and laboratories, it isnt uncommon to see offerings for used equipment, also many colleges on the US recycle their computer equipments every couple of years i can assume some hospital do the same
