Inspiration

Imagine you're at a family reunion and your grandpa starts delving into his quirky political views .

Or you're doing homework

Have you ever been stuck third wheeling and WISH somebody would call you and get you out? We have -- and it's not a fun time! Introducing BOB, the only friend that has your back when you need it the most.

What it does

It calls the user using the Twilio API either 90 seconds after the user presses a button or whenever the user schedules the call to happen. The back-end connects with the ChatGPT API to come up with a unique excuse to get the user out of their situation.

How we built it

For our front-end we used react, typescript, and MUI's library. For our back-end node.js, axios, AWS, and Twilio and ChatGPT APIs. We used firebase for the database.

Challenges we ran into

We had some problems getting our UI laid out properly with drawers and dropdowns.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Getting the APIs working for Twilio and ChatGPT as well as linking the front and back end together after working on them separately.

What we learned

How to make API calls, and we got experience with front-end developing.

What's next for BailOut Buddy

Allowing the user to have a full conversation with BOB to add to the realism of the excuse to leave.
