Inspiration

People love creating, connecting and building community. And this past year, with limited travel and more time spent online, NFTs have become a well-known commodity, tool and piece of technology with the potential to change how we interact and identify in the virtual and physical worlds. While there continues to be innovative use cases built around and with NFTs, the mainstream conversation is largely about jpgs as speculative investment.

As more people adopt digital wallets and as the Solana blockchain introduces speed and low cost for all transactions, we believe NFTs will surge with more growth and new use cases. We see a future where most people have digital wallets and in those wallets are thousands of NFTs and tokens alike that represent who they are and what they do, and function as membership IDs, rewards, tickets, works of art, coupons, trophies, and so much more.

We’re focused on making NFTs more accessible and useful, and Badges v1 is our first step. We’re inspired by the power of NFTs, smart contracts, Solana, the ecosystem, the people contributing to it and more broadly, the opportunity ahead.

What it does

Badges enables you to create personalized NFTs for your groups. You can manage and send your NFTs (aka Badges) to other wallets directly from the platform.

How it works: The first NFT you mint is the “original”. The “total max supply” is the number of NFTs you can create from the “original” and send to other wallets.

How we built it

Badges was built using Next.js; a react framework, Solana Web3 APIs, and Metaplex protocol to enable NFT minting.

Challenges we ran into

One of the most challenging parts we ran into was bringing our platform from an idea to execution in a short period of time with such a small team. Aside from the time-crunch challenges, we had to re-create our project from scratch after realizing concerns pertaining to wallet connection persistence. Nonetheless, we were able to take our project to the finish line despite running into these challenges.
