Inspiration

Having a reliable backup cellphone network to communicate and track our loved ones. The main inspiration behind this is to keep a track of every person assuming He/She have a cell-phone.

What it does

Provide an emergency cell network if a regular cellular network fails. In an emergency situation throughout the area, system will provide free calls and SMS. The cellular network antennas will be indoors to have a extra layer of protection. And the antennas will have

How I built it

  1. Identify some buildings which are at least 250 ft.
  2. Check the structural integrity of such buildings. Also check the safety measures for the same.
  3. Identify population density of the region.
  4. Divide the region into small subsets or cells based on population density. For example the New York City should have more such cells.
  5. Now install cellphone antenna in the identified buildings at the minimum height of 200 ft. Give them a Power Supply as well as have array of Battery for backup.
  6. Installing 4 pairs of set of antennas. Each pair should contain One transmitter and Two Trans-receiver and should be at an angle of 2° with respect to y-axis or 88° with respect to earth.

Challenges I ran into

  1. Identifying buildings with required height.
  2. Studying about the structural integrity of buildings
  3. Dividing the area.
  4. Assumption that everyone will have a cell phone.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

  1. Having a secure communication at all point.
  2. This will help to track anyone, who have a cell phone, during or after crisis.
  3. Assurance that people in need will have a chance to call the 911 or emergency services.

What I learned

  1. Range of an antenna.
  2. How does the angle of antenna affect the range or radius if a cell.
  3. Power requirement of such antennas.

What's next for Backup Cellphone Network in Crisis Situation

  1. Apply for copyright.
  2. Contacting different city Mayors to start a business.
  3. Determining the location for having such antennas.
  4. Approaching different service providers to earn some revenue.
  5. Creating network for rural areas or for armed forces to create simple cellular field.
