Inspiration
The local SMEs are our inspiration. During the lockdown we often found ourselves missing our habits, all the places we used to go to, the people we used to meet and the things we used to buy. We often found ourselves thinking that some of these activities couldn’t survive this moment, because of the lack of income in this period. How much would we miss them?
What it does
It connects local businesses with their supporters, so they can financially support their favorite local companies during the crisis.
How I built it
We built our team just two days ago, on the slack channel created for the hackathon. We started talking between us, sharing our ideas and values, and we immediately got along and started developing the project. We designed the project and procedure, and made a prototype of the future web platform. The more we were working on the project the more we were falling in love with it.
Challenges I ran into
We found ourselves doing a lot of work in just two days. Creating a project from scratch in just two days is not easy, it’s even more difficult when you don’t know your teammates. But we managed to get along well, and do hard and good work in one weekend. It was hard to imagine budget costs connected to the hosting and to operating the platform because none of us has technical knowledge in these fields.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
We are proud that we managed to design and deliver a project born in two days, made of people coming from 4 different countries and that didn’t know each other before. We created a project that respects and empathizes with local businesses, that is clear, that emphasizes enthusiasm and proactiveness, authenticity, quality and effectiveness. We believe these are the funding values of the European Union: people with different backgrounds and origins working together to create a better world.
What I learned
That if you really believe in a project you can overcome all the problems and difficulties that you can find along your way.
What's next for Backing Europe's local SMEs
We need to find the funding for developing the platform and promote it to reach Europe's local SMEs and their supporters.
