Inspiration

The lack of sleep was making us see things so we thought... why can't everyone see things that aren't there? Our inner children who play with monster trucks needed a circuit so we made a holographic one where we can play against the people who we all love the most: ourselves.

What it does

Back<<Track is an AR game where you can make your own circuit that is overlayed on the real world. You can physically go through it and even backtrack and race against representations of your previous attempts in a fancy car!

How we built it

Back<<Track was built with ARCore and C# inside of Unity.

Challenges we ran into

Unity hates us. The AR plugin would always fail and once it finally starts working, it chooses that whatever worked before isn't right anymore. On top of that, we are not very experienced with Unity so things that we would expect to work simply didn't. It was a constant battle against the engine.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud that we got the game to work as a whole. This AR technology is extremely cool and we definitely stepped outside of our comfort zone, so we are glad things came together and we were able to make a functional AR app.

What we learned

With our lack of experience in Unity, we learned a lot about this industry-standard tool. We saw our efficiency in the engine increase greatly over the weekend. This was also our first time stepping into AR development which is something we are excited to use even more now.

What's next for Back<<Track

We see the potential for a full multiplayer experience that allows players to connect from different environments. Things like power-ups can also take the experience to the next level.
