Inspiration

Right now people are transitioning back to in person work in offices and schools. This provides a big risk of spread to coworkers/classmates. These places are trying to find ways to reduce these risks but the logistics are so complicated that its hard not to make mistakes and accidentally walk into a room with too many people

What it does

In our solution, the user can check our app to see how many people are in the room- and whether it is safe to go inside. The people managing the office or classroom space can pick the thresholds for how many people is full capacity.

How I built it

Google-cloud-vision helps recognize people in the photo it takes in and maps out where in the office people are using Pill to draw dots.

Challenges I ran into

Setting up Google cloud for the first time, callibrating vision to detect people, connecting our solution to the react app we made.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

We're proud we were able to get a working system so quickly! While we didn't flesh out the app as much as we wanted this was a cool proof of concept!

What I learned

All of us learned how extensive google cloud's platform is and as Harleen and Rishi were both MechE and ECE majors they got more exposure to web app development for the first time!

What's next for Back to Work!

We want to extend this to include detecting how many people are wearing masks! This would add to the safety factor. We also want to recommend paths/entrances for the user to take to avoid crowded areas in the room.
