Project Story: Bachat Buddy - My Expense Tracker
Introduction
In today's fast-paced world, keeping track of personal finances is more critical than ever. Recognizing the need for an intuitive and efficient expense tracker, my friend Aryan Arora and I decided to collaborate on a project that would help individuals manage their expenses effortlessly. Thus, Bachat Buddy was born.
The Concept
The idea behind Bachat Buddy was simple yet powerful: create a user-friendly tool that allows users to upload their expense data and receive comprehensive analysis and insights. We envisioned a web application that could seamlessly integrate frontend and backend technologies to provide a smooth and engaging user experience.
Team Collaboration
Our team comprised two passionate developers with complementary skills. Aryan Arora, a talented frontend developer, took on the task of designing the user interface. His expertise in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript ensured that the application was visually appealing and easy to navigate. Meanwhile, I focused on building the backend using Flask, a lightweight and versatile web framework for Python. Additionally, I handled the data analysis component using Streamlit, which allowed us to present the processed data in an interactive and user-friendly manner.
Building the Frontend
Aryan Arora's work on the frontend was instrumental in bringing Bachat Buddy to life. He created a clean and modern design for the home page, featuring an HTML form that allowed users to upload CSV files containing their expense data. The form was intuitive, making it easy for users to get started with just a few clicks. Aryan's attention to detail and design sensibility ensured that Bachat Buddy was not only functional but also aesthetically pleasing.
Developing the Backend
On the backend, I built the core functionality of Bachat Buddy using Flask. The backend server handled file uploads, processed the data, and communicated with the frontend. I ensured that the application was secure, efficient, and capable of handling multiple users simultaneously. The Flask server also routed users to different pages and managed their sessions seamlessly.
Data Analysis with Streamlit
One of the key features of Bachat Buddy is its ability to analyze and visualize expense data. Using Streamlit, I developed an interactive dashboard that provided users with insights into their spending habits. The dashboard included various visualizations such as pie charts, bar graphs, and line charts, which helped users understand their expenses better. The integration of Streamlit with Flask allowed us to present the analyzed data in real-time, enhancing the user experience.
Challenges and Learnings
Throughout the development process, Aryan and I faced several challenges, from ensuring seamless integration between frontend and backend to handling large datasets efficiently. However, these challenges provided us with valuable learning opportunities. We improved our skills in web development, data analysis, and team collaboration.
Conclusion
Bachat Buddy is the result of our shared vision and hard work. It exemplifies what can be achieved through collaboration and dedication. We are proud of the tool we have created and excited about the impact it can have on helping individuals manage their finances better. Bachat Buddy not only tracks expenses but also empowers users to make informed financial decisions, paving the way for a more secure and prosperous future.
Future Plans
We have ambitious plans for Bachat Buddy. We aim to add more features, such as budgeting tools, expense categorization, and personalized financial advice. We are also considering developing a mobile application to make Bachat Buddy even more accessible. Aryan and I are committed to continuously improving Bachat Buddy and making it the go-to expense tracker for users worldwide.
