Inspiration
We wanted to create an app that could make a positive impact in our college community.
What it does
The app keeps track of how many standard drinks the user takes, when their last drink was, and how much water they have had. This is used in conjunction with their weight and gender to give an estimate of their BAC. Furthermore, if they drink a certain amount of alcohol in a given time period, a notification is sent to the phone to make them aware of how much they have had, and if the threshold is exceeded a text message is automatically sent to a friend so that they can check on the user. The app also produces a graph estimating the BAC of the user over time.
How we built it
We built the app using Android Studio.
Challenges we ran into
We had some trouble getting the notification feature working correctly.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of the simple interface and usability of the app, as well as the notification features of the app.
What we learned
We learned more about adding networking features to android apps.
What's next for BAC Watcher
We hope to grow this into an app for Android and iOS in order to help college students around the country drink more responsibly.
