Inspiration We were inspired by the flying scenes in Dumbo and wanted to create a Horizon experience where players can move through both ground and air. Delivering baby animals felt like a fun mechanic to build around.

What it does Baby Air Express is a flying delivery game. Players pick up baby animals from a conveyor belt, fly them to their parents across islands, celebrate a birthday, and return for the next task. Delivery count shows on-screen, and there's a leaderboard to track top players.

How we built it We used ChatGPT and Meshy to help create assets, and modeled others in Blender and Rhino. The world was built using Horizon’s editor and Typescript.

Challenges we ran into

  • Horizon doesn’t support custom UI scripts, so we used texture-based UIs on meshes.
  • No rigged animation import, so we animated bird wings manually using separate parts.
  • No custom flying poses, so we made the stork a wearable object that attaches to the player.
  • Accomplishments that we're proud of We solved multiple limitations with creative workarounds.
  • None of us had used Horizon before—we learned the editor and Typescript in under three weeks.

What we learned

  • How to build and script in Horizon.
  • How to work around platform constraints with asset and animation tricks.
  • How to make a playable game loop quickly with a small team.

What's next for Baby Air Express

  • Add in-air mechanics like checkpoints or time boosts.
  • Create new zones like glacier and desert with new animals.
  • Improve multiplayer syncing and delivery flow.
