Inspiration
I came up with this idea while watching a video of two people from Purdue arguing in Vulcan over Instagram. I wondered if I would be able to understand it without having to learn the language, so I decided to create this Google Translate clone
What it does
Allows you to speak or type in English, gives you an option of a few languages to translate to, and returns the text in said language. Also allows you to speak the thing.
How I built it
We created it using ReactJS, Express, and Microsoft Azure Speech SDK
Challenges I ran into
We expected to create a React Native application at the start, but after spending half a day trying to set it up on all our computers, we gave up on it and decided to web was the way forward.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
Being able to integrate complicated APIs together.
What I learned
Working in a team is a lot of fun during a hackathon!
What's next for Babel Fisherman
The API keys are not secure yet. Adding a proxy over the server would be much more secure. Plus the UI could use some improvements
