About

Arguments can be dramatic, entertaining, and informative. We sought to create BabbleOn, a platform that houses all sorts of debates and disputes; where users can partake in or peruse a collection of quarrels ranging from console wars and music preference to ethics and politics. Victories would be decided via user votes and well liked arguments would be pitted against opposing arguments that are similarly received. Users would be able to argue, ranking up with their experience, and earning special tags for maintaining impressive win to loss ratios. When not arguing, users can enjoy petty or silly arguments and learn from serious or nuanced ones.

Inspiration

Everyone has had an argument in which they knew they were right, but could not get their opposition to see it that way. With BabbleOn we’d let the people decide.

Challenges

We’re a group of four first time hackers and we didn’t have any prior app development experience. Following the difficulty that came with finding an idea, we struggled with implementation. There are so many APIs and SDKs available that deciding which to use became a challenge and our difficulty choosing posed another problem as it impacted our time.

What we Learned

We learned about cool SDKs and APIs that should be helpful going forward like Firebase and Flutter.

Build

BabbleOn was made in VS Code using Dart with Flutter and Firebase. Adobe XD’s integration with Flutter was used as well.

What's Next

Going forth, we hope to make functional prototypes and eventually stable BabbleOn applications for every platform.
