Our Digital Safety Concerns
We’ve all been there sitting in the comfort of our own homes, scrolling through our phones and hitting "post" without really giving the actual content a second thought. It feels like whatever we’re sharing is just a quick update for our friends in the moment, but the reality is the internet doesn't really have an "eraser." Our activity online creates a permanent digital footprint that follows us everywhere. A joke taken out of context or a photo that seemed fine at 2 AM can come back to haunt us years later. Job offers can be pulled, strangers can gain access to private information, and reputations can be ruined before we even realize what we did wrong.
Our Goal
B4UPost is all about giving you a second opinion and a chance to correct a mistake before you make it. We wanted to build something that helps people see the risks they might be missing. Our goal isn't just to say “yes” or “no”, it's to help people understand the reason behind the risks.
This tool is meant to give you more control than you had before. By predicting how a post might look to the outside world, we’re helping you protect your privacy and your future. Think of it as a safety net for your online life, something to help you keep your digital image exactly how you intended.
What is B4UPost?
Essentially, it’s a smart risk analyzer for your social media posts. Before you post a photo or a caption, B4UPost can take a look at it for you. It scans your text and images to find anything that might get you in trouble, that might put your personal safety at risk or might look bad to a future employer. It doesn't just say "don't post this." It gives you a breakdown of what the issue is and recommendations on how to fix it. Additionally, We built it to be super simple and fast, so it’s there whenever you need a quick gut check.
How We Built It
The Look: We used Streamlit to keep the website clean and easy to use to get our idea across. The Brain: We used Python as the backend for proficiency and easy readability. The Vision: We used the Sightengine API to help our program analyse the images. It can spot things like alcohol or weapons and can even read text hidden inside a picture to make sure nothing risky is sneaking through.
