Inspiration

Healthcare does not end when a patient leaves the clinic. We saw a need for better continuity between patients, caregivers, and healthcare teams, especially around medicines, reminders, refills, and day-to-day care. This inspired us to build AyuNexa — Connected Care. Smarter Health.

What it does

AyuNexa brings essential care activities into one connected platform. It supports:

Medication reminders and dose tracking Medicine stock and refill management Care-journey tracking Patient and caregiver coordination Health reports and patient-reported updates Pharmacy/refill workflows Responsible AI assistance Offline-first access to essential medication functions Authorized clinical views

AyuNexa is designed to assist patients and healthcare teams, not replace clinical decision-making.

How we built it

We built AyuNexa using React, TypeScript, and Vite for the application interface, with Node.js/Express for backend APIs and PostgreSQL for structured healthcare and medication data. We use an offline-first approach for essential medication workflows and plan responsible AI assistance using Google Gemini.

We also designed role-based access, consent controls, audit logging, synchronization workflows, and reusable healthcare UI components to support a secure and scalable architecture.

Challenges we ran into

One of our biggest challenges was designing a healthcare application that is useful without making unsafe clinical claims. We had to carefully separate patient-reported information, caregiver updates, clinical information, and AI-generated assistance.

We also faced challenges around offline functionality, medication stock synchronization, duplicate dose events, caregiver permissions, refill workflows, and ensuring that emergency or pharmacy features do not display actions as completed when they have not actually been confirmed.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of developing a working AyuNexa prototype that brings medication management, reminders, stock tracking, caregiver coordination, reports, refill workflows, and AI assistance into a unified experience.

We also established a foundation for responsible healthcare technology with offline-first workflows, role-based experiences, consent-aware sharing, auditability, and clear boundaries around AI and clinical decision-making.

What we learned

We learned that healthcare technology requires more than simply adding AI features. Trust, safety, privacy, usability, data accuracy, and clear responsibility are equally important.

We also learned how important it is to design for real-world conditions such as poor connectivity, missed confirmations, changing medication plans, incomplete information, and different needs of patients, caregivers, and healthcare professionals.

What's next for AyuNexa

We plan to continue developing AyuNexa into a broader connected-care platform by strengthening:

Patient and caregiver care journeys Authorized clinical workflows Pharmacy and refill integrations Offline synchronization Responsible AI assistance Privacy and security Accessibility and Assisted Mode Health and care-journey reporting

Our long-term vision is to make AyuNexa a trusted connected-care companion that helps people stay organized and supported throughout their healthcare journey — beyond the clinic.Inspiration
