Inspiration

Healthcare management does not end when a patient leaves the clinic. Patients and families must remember medicines, monitor supplies, manage refills, track progress, and coordinate with caregivers. These responsibilities can become overwhelming, especially for elderly people and patients who need ongoing care. We created AyuNexa — Connected Care. Smarter Health. to make everyday healthcare simpler and help patients and caregivers stay connected beyond clinic visits.

What it does

AyuNexa is an intelligent healthcare companion that brings essential care-management features into one platform. Its key features include:

Smart Medicine Reminders: Helps patients manage medication schedules and record dose confirmations. Medicine Stock Monitoring: Tracks available medicine quantities and estimates remaining days. Refill Assistance: Supports refill planning and pharmacy workflows. Patient–Caregiver Connectivity: Enables consent-based sharing of relevant care updates. Care Journey Tracking: Organizes medication plans, progress updates, and follow-up information. Reports and Insights: Summarizes medication activity, stock history, and care updates. AI-Assisted Support: Provides non-clinical assistance for everyday healthcare management. Voice Assistance and Assisted Mode: Aims to make the application easier to use, particularly for elderly users. Emergency Support: Provides an SOS-oriented workflow for emergency assistance.

Our goal is to create a connected experience for patients, caregivers, and authorized healthcare professionals while respecting privacy and patient consent.

How we built it

We started with an existing healthcare prototype and developed it into AyuNexa, focusing on medication management and connected care.

Our technology approach includes React, TypeScript, and Vite for the user interface, with Node.js and Express for backend services. We are developing structured data workflows for medicines, dose events, stock management, caregiver permissions, reports, and refill processes.

We also focus on offline-first medication workflows, reusable UI components, role-based access, consent controls, and audit trails. AI is intended to support non-clinical tasks rather than replace healthcare professionals.

The project is being developed iteratively, with attention to usability, reliability, and responsible handling of sensitive health information.

Challenges we ran into

One of our biggest challenges is turning a prototype into a reliable healthcare product.

We need to ensure that medication records remain consistent, reminders work as expected, and offline changes synchronize safely when connectivity returns. Connecting patients, caregivers, doctors, and pharmacies also introduces challenges involving permissions, privacy, data accuracy, and reliable integrations.

Another important challenge is making the interface simple enough for elderly and non-technical users without sacrificing functionality.

We also recognize that simulated features are not the same as real-world services. Pharmacy ordering, emergency notifications, clinical validation, and secure production integrations require additional implementation, testing, and appropriate partnerships.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud to have established the foundation for AyuNexa as a connected healthcare platform rather than just a medicine reminder application.

Our accomplishments include:

Developing an existing healthcare prototype into the AyuNexa concept. Designing a connected medication-management experience. Building workflows for medicine schedules, dose tracking, stock monitoring, and medicine runway estimates. Developing patient and caregiver experiences. Exploring refill assistance, reporting, AI support, and emergency workflows. Establishing a safety-first approach to AI, privacy, and consent. Defining a roadmap for moving from a prototype toward real-world testing and deployment.

Most importantly, we are building around a real user need: helping patients and families manage everyday care with greater clarity and coordination.

What we learned

We learned that healthcare technology requires more than an attractive interface and useful features. Reliability, accessibility, privacy, and trust must be considered from the beginning.

We also learned that a medication confirmation is not proof that a medicine was swallowed, an AI-generated observation is not a clinical diagnosis, and a simulated emergency or pharmacy workflow must never be presented as a completed real-world action.

Building AyuNexa has reinforced the importance of designing for real users, validating workflows with healthcare professionals, handling unreliable connectivity, and communicating clearly about what the system can and cannot do.

What's next for AyuNexa

Our next goal is to evolve AyuNexa into a secure, reliable, and user-tested healthcare platform.

We plan to:

Strengthen the foundation: Improve authentication, permissions, data security, offline storage, and synchronization. Validate with real users: Gather feedback from patients, caregivers, and healthcare professionals. Improve accessibility: Refine Assisted Mode, voice interactions, readability, and mobile usability. Develop reliable integrations: Explore authorized pharmacy partnerships and real refill workflows. Strengthen clinical collaboration: Enable authorized healthcare professionals to review care information and manage medication plans through appropriate workflows. Prepare for deployment: Expand testing, document limitations, and address applicable privacy, healthcare, and platform requirements.

Our long-term vision is to make AyuNexa a trusted companion for the entire care journey, helping patients, families, and healthcare professionals stay connected beyond the clinic.
