Inspiration
It all started with my Grandma. I was deeply moved by watching her struggle with Everyday Activities and witnessing her fear of falling without anyone around to help. One particular incident—where she fell and waited hours for assistance—struck a chord. I knew there had to be a better way. That’s when the idea for AyuCare was born—a simple, non-intrusive solution to keep our loved ones safe and connected.
What it does
We started by integrating smart socks equipped with sensors like Accelerometers, Gyroscopes, and Pressure Sensors to precisely detect falls. Using Arduino for hardware and developing the AyuCare app in Android Studio, we connected these sensors for real-time monitoring. We employed MySQL and Firebase to manage data and ensure timely alerts to caregivers.
How we built it
We built AyuCare by integrating advanced sensor technology into Smart Socks, designed to monitor falls and health indicators for the elderly. Using Arduino for real-time data processing, we connected sensors like Gyroscopes and Accelerometers for precise monitoring. The AyuCare App, built using Android Studio, seamlessly connects with the Hardware, utilizing Firebase and MySQL for Real-time Alerts and Data Management, ensuring Caregivers are notified immediately in case of Emergencies.
Challenges we ran into
Building AyuCare wasn't without challenges. Integrating Hardware with Software required overcoming connectivity issues, optimizing data accuracy, and ensuring user comfort. Real-time alerts presented difficulties, requiring extensive testing to ensure reliability. Despite the obstacles, the vision of keeping loved ones safe kept us driven—turning every challenge into a stepping stone toward a safer solution for the Elderly.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We’re proud of creating a Solution that has the Potential to improve Elderly Care on a Personal Level. Successfully integrating Hardware with Software, ensuring real-time accuracy in fall detection, and crafting a user-friendly app were major milestones. Most of all, the positive impact our prototype made during testing gave us the confidence that AyuCare can genuinely bring a sense of security and independence to elderly users.
What we learned
Throughout this journey, We learned the Incredible Power of Technology in addressing Real-life Problems. We explored the world of sensors, real-time monitoring, and human-centered design. But more than that, we learned about empathy—understanding the needs of the Elderly and translating that into meaningful technology.
What's next for AyuCare : Smart Socks for Enhanced Elderly Wellness and Care
Our next step is to expand AyuCare’s functionality by incorporating additional health metrics like heart rate and oxygen levels, turning it into a comprehensive wellness tool. We plan to integrate more robust machine learning capabilities to personalize alerts and make predictive health recommendations. Additionally, partnerships with healthcare providers will help us bring AyuCare to more homes, ensuring more elderly individuals benefit from our solution.
