Inspiration

Growing up in the local part of Lagos, Nigeria, I watched my parents work tirelessly to run their small businesses. My mother is a local trader, and my father is a painter. Every day, they faced the same struggles: no reminders, no one to help follow up on clients, no time to strategize. And worst of all—no one to ask for help without being shamed. and as for me I am a junior software developer, I am learning software development, I am taking machine learning classes, psychology classes too. and still doing freelancing jobs online so I saw the need for an assistant but I do not have money to pay to a physical assistant or virtual.

I got to ask my friend currently in a university this QUESTION, I asked him how will he feel if he could have an invisible assistant helping him watch and giving feedback on his business flow, he said it will be exciting he will be grateful to that kind of assistant around, he would work harder on his studies so I saw that I am not the only one in this dilemma. many other people out there will want an assistant too. to assist them in there businesses and also for them not to be alone again.

That’s when the spark hit me: What if they had a respectful, intelligent assistant by their side?

Inspired by Iron Man’s JARVIS and FRIDAY, I created Friday—a voice-enabled, AI-powered business companion. Not just a chatbot. A true partner. Built to support solo entrepreneurs, small business owners, freelancers, and side hustlers—especially across Africa and underserved communities.

What It Does

Friday is a smart, voice-and-chat-powered personal business assistant. It supports the user’s workflow through:

  • Voice activation with wake word: “Hey Friday”
  • AI task memory (e.g., reminders, daily business summaries)
  • Natural conversation via voice and chat
  • Multilingual support: English, Yoruba, Nigerian Pidgin, Hausa, Igbo
  • Business coaching and AI-generated suggestions
  • Onboarding that learns from the user’s goals
  • Smart token system for premium access
  • Daily interaction reports
  • Future-ready features like WhatsApp, calendar, and Gmail integrations

Friday gives users an experience that feels like talking to a reliable PA—whether it’s “schedule that call,” “draft that message,” or “remind me to follow up.”

How We Built It

I used Bolt.new as the development environment for the UI and logic structure, and extended it with tools like:

  • React + TypeScript: For the frontend
  • Tailwind CSS + Lucide Icons: For clean, responsive UI
  • Supabase (PostgreSQL, Auth, Storage): For backend, secure data storage, and user auth
  • Web Speech API: For voice-to-text and audio responses
  • React Router: For client-side navigation
  • Context API + Custom Hooks: For global state
  • date-fns: To handle dates and scheduling
  • Netlify: For live deployment

Despite hardware limits and token restrictions, I used Bolt’s tools creatively to simulate voice interactions, build UI screens, and demo workflows.

Challenges We Ran Into

  • Token limits: I had to stretch minimal Bolt.new tokens to maximum effect.
  • Solo development: I handled everything—design, logic, writing, and testing—on my own.
  • Lack of funding or advanced hardware: Building this from a local Nigerian neighborhood with no access to modern tools wasn’t easy.
  • Skepticism: Many people discouraged me, saying the idea was too big for me alone.

Accomplishments That We're Proud Of

  • Built a full AI assistant experience solo
  • Implemented a working prototype with onboarding, multilingual support, and AI logic
  • Created a concept with global scalability—Africa to America
  • Inspired by personal story, built to help millions of underserved entrepreneurs
  • Presented a futuristic idea that merges with real-world hardware (robots, androids)

What We Learned

  • How to build advanced apps in Bolt.new from scratch
  • Deploying and testing with limited tools (Netlify, Supabase)
  • Implementing real-time interactions through voice APIs
  • Designing with empathy: building for people like my parents
  • How powerful one person’s belief can be, even without support or funding

What's Next for Ayonman Business Personal Assistant

  • Deep Integration with WhatsApp, Gmail, Calendar, and CRMs
  • Sentiment analysis to detect how users feel during workdays
  • Predictive analytics to guide users in decision-making
  • Smart token economy for freemium and referral growth
  • Team expansion: I hope to bring on developers, designers, and researchers
  • Hardware extension: Friday as the software core of future androids—business, medical, military, and home robots

I believe Friday is more than a hackathon project—it’s the beginning of a movement that ensures no entrepreneur ever builds alone again.
