Inspiration

In the evolving landscape of home healthcare, patient engagement remains a significant challenge. We noticed gaps in personalized care, and AI powered solutions. AxxessCare was born from that desire to bridge that gap and improve health outcomes.

What it does

Personalized Care Management: Patients can track medications, monitor progress with a progress bar. AI Health Assistant: An integrated AI chatbot that helps patients understand their care plans and medications Progress Tracking: Gamified features encourage patients to consistently follow their care routines, rewarding them for active participation.

How we built it

Frontend: SwiftUI was used to build an intuitive and responsive iOS app interface. Backend: Firebase Firestore manages real-time data synchronization between patients and doctors, while Firebase Auth secures user authentication. AI Integration: OpenAI’s GPT-3.5 powers the AI health assistant, with tailored prompts for both patients and doctors, providing context-aware responses. Gamification: We implemented stylish progress bars to motivate consistency with medication. APIs: Integration with Firebase Cloud Functions and Firestore security rules ensures smooth and secure data operations.

Challenges we ran into

Data Privacy & Security: Ensuring patient data remained secure while enabling real-time doctor access posed challenges, especially around Firestore rules and access control. AI Contextual Awareness: Fine-tuning the AI assistant to provide meaningful responses based on personalized data for both patients and doctors required careful prompt engineering. UI Consistency: Balancing a user-friendly design that caters to both patients and doctors without overcomplicating the UI took several iterations.

What we learned

The importance of user-centric design in healthcare apps to cater to varying levels of tech-savviness. Prompt engineering is key to leveraging AI in a personalized healthcare context. Real-time databases like Firestore require careful structuring to ensure data integrity and privacy. Gamification elements like daily progress tracking can significantly improve patient engagement in care plans. The critical balance between privacy and accessibility in health tech.
