Inspiration
Aphasia is a communication disorder that results from damage to the parts of the brain that contain language. Having been a volunteer with individuals with aphasia, I wanted to create a device that would allow them to get the help they need in as fast as possible. Although we would assume that devices like an Android or an Iphone would benefit them the most. During my experience, the majority of the clients I've worked with had difficulty using new those technological devices.
What it does
It's a button that can be used to respond to an emergecy, send a text, make a call, etc.. when pressed.
How I built it
Axolotl button was built on the ESP8266 using the arduino ide.
Challenges I ran into
The biggest challenge I faced was maintaining a stable power consumption.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
Completing the project is my accomplishment in this hackathone
What I learned
Changing code in libraries was necessary when dealing with the esp8266 because of it low amount of documentation.
What's next for Axolotl Button
Replace the esp8266 with the esp32 which has a bluetooth capability.
