Inspiration

Modern teams are overloaded — not because there’s too much work, but because there’s no intelligent way to balance it. Managers rely on spreadsheets, Slack messages, and intuition to assign tasks, often discovering burnout only after productivity drops. We were inspired by a simple question: 'What if workload management could be automatic, intelligent, and real-time?" Instead of building another task manager, we wanted to build the intelligence layer behind team workflows — something that understands capacity before assigning work.

What it does

Axis is an AI-powered workflow manager that: -Syncs directly with Google Calendar -Tracks daily workload in real time -Detects burnout risk when employees exceed 5 tasks -Recommends the best employee for a task based on: -Role match -Skill alignment -Current workload capacity -Provides a live dashboard for managers -We model workload capacity as: Burnout risk is triggered when: -Axis turns invisible overload into measurable signals.

How we built it

-Backend -FastAPI for the API layer -MongoDB Atlas for employee and task data -Google Calendar API for real-time synchronization -Frontend -React + TailwindCSS dashboard -Infinite scroll employee grid -Smart task recommendation engine -Dynamic workload scoring algorithm -Architecture Flow -Employee data stored in MongoDB -Google Calendar sync fetches daily events -Axis calculates workload + burnout risk -Task assignment algorithm scores best candidates -Dashboard reflects real-time updates

Challenges we ran into

Handling OAuth authentication with Google Calendar Structuring MongoDB collections for scalable employee data Fixing frontend blank screens caused by mismatched API responses Aligning backend IDs with frontend state logic Managing async background loops without blocking FastAPI The biggest challenge? Making everything feel seamless and real-time.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Successfully syncing live Google Calendar data Automatically detecting burnout risk Building a recommendation system that adapts dynamically Deploying a working full-stack prototype Creating a scalable backend structure ready for growth Most importantly — we built a system that doesn’t just track work… It understands it.

What we learned

Workload isn’t just task count — it’s weighted complexity Backend architecture decisions directly impact frontend scalability Real-time sync requires careful async design A simple threshold model can evolve into predictive analytics We learned that productivity isn’t about working more —it’s about balancing better.

What's next for Axis - Where work find its balance

-AI-powered predictive burnout detection -Cross-platform integrations (Slack, Notion, Jira) -Machine learning-based workload forecasting -Team-level optimization dashboards -Smart auto-rescheduling during overload -Enterprise deployment & analytics layer

Axis isn’t just a workflow tool. It’s the beginning of intelligent team orchestration.
